most anticipated park - the wizarding world of harry potter

concept art here, here, and here.

"The world's first fully immersive harry potter-themed environment based on the bestselling books by j.k. rowling and blockbuster feature films from warner bros.
envisioned as a "theme park within a theme park" and titled "the wizarding world of harry potter," the new environment will become part of the experience within universal orlando's islands of adventure theme park at universal orlando resort."

holy god.. i can't wait. if it looks anything merely close to those, be prepared because i *will* cream my panties.

show/attraction - the lost continent's poseidon's fury

Most anticipated rides & attractions Posfur10

"An explosive undersea adventure! tour the remains of the ancient temple of poseidon. once inside, you'll find yourself trapped far beneath the sea as huge fireballs, lasers and explosions of water erupt all around you.

you're caught in a colossal battle between ancient gods with no hope of escape!"

ride - jurassic park's jurassic park river adventure

Most anticipated rides & attractions Jurass10

"It's lunchtime... and you're on the menu! take an unforgettable river raft ride, and see dinosaurs in their natural habitats.

but be careful! the fences are down, the raptors have broken loose, and the only escape from the terrifying jaws of a hungry t-rex is an 85-foot plunge in total darkness!"

dining/nom noms - a cross between the hard rock cafe/museum we're going to be dining at and 'butterbeer' beer buds at three broomsticks (which they'd better figure out how to create *evil eye*).

there's not a whole lot to pick from actually, but i'm sure everything we find ourselves doing will make for an awesome day. =)

Most Anticipated Park

Most anticipated rides & attractions Jurass10

Jurassic Park - So this one should be obvious. I mean for fucks sake, you're going to have drag me away from this area if you want to do anything else while we're there. They have hatching baby Raptors. My dreams will come true that day.

Show/Attraction

Most anticipated rides & attractions 554417008_02b8d3e7fd

The Eighth Voyage of Sinbad - So I don't know if you know this about me, but there's a series of films done by this guy named Ray Harryhausen and I have a very big soft spot for them, the same way I do Godzilla films. He made stop motion animation films ala the original King Kong (which inspired him) and he made a series of Sinbad films. So I'm sure I will <3 this show.

Ride

Most anticipated rides & attractions Riveradventure

Jurassic Park River Adventure - Again, should go without saying. If at the moment above, there is a voice over guy saying "Welcome, to Jurassic Park." you'll have to help me clean the mess in my pants.

Dining/Nom-n

RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Stop the presses. Back up. In an unexpected move, there is a possible tie in the Ride category. What could it be?

Most anticipated rides & attractions Spidey

So depending on whether or not this happens to be a phase of mine, I'm really looking forward to this ride. On top of it having Spidey, I recall Lou saying it was one of the best rides in all of Orlando, that's means something coming from Lou.

Back to our regularly scheduled programming...

Dining/Nom-nom

Most anticipated rides & attractions Hrdroc10

Hard Rock Cafe - lol, so this was out of necessity more than anything, since I have no idea what counter service type meal we'll be having that day. I am looking forward to having a burger though, since the only other place I'll be doing that at is Pecos.

TA DAAAA! Finally deed it, I feel like this:

Wellllllllll, actually I've heard that Universal's deal with Marvel basically means as long as they keep a Spider-Man based ride there, up all the time, they're allowed to keep the land. Doesn't mean that Disney can't do their own Marvel based rides however.

hmmm, why just spiderman? there's a whole land with characters from marvel comics there.

i'd be really sad for universal if they were forced to cut out all their marvel-themed stuff. it looks so awesome.

Like I was saying to you on the phone, Spidey is Marvel's Mickey. He's always front and center in almost everything they do. To prove that I mean that almost literally, I took a picture of the Marvel game you got me with my 360:

haha wow, you're right.

how much is ioa using spiderman as their main guy falling back on the fact that there's more movies planned for him? what's gonna happen in a few years when the movies start to die down confused

i know marvel is solely based around the comics and not so much the movies (the comics did come first afterall), but the movies are what boosts the characters popularity, right? you said before that kids really aren't all that interested in the actual comic books anymore.

i guess i'm just wondering, if disney's buying marvel is going to push universal to take a different route sometime in the future. once the popularity dies down from the movies, why are they gonna want to use something that another company owns now? -- i think it'd be nice for them to share. sharing is caring. big hug

and also, how much do you think disney buying marvel has to do with a big new land opening up in ioa?

i ask too many questions. you're sooo like this right now: chatterbox

Well, I don't think the movies will die down anytime soon, because I think Sony is only under contract for 2-3 more films and that may include a possible spin-off film with Venom. After that, Disney gets Spidey's film rights back and you can bet they'll start a film series of their own. So Universal could capitalize on all of this. I mean don't get me wrong, Spidey is front and center, but the other Marvel characters make quite a pretty penny as well.

I'd say the characters images are the most important thing first and foremost, getting to sell the Spidey or Wolverine: underoos, school folders, posters, ect. Then I'll take it a step further than you did and say the movies (and TV shows) are absolutely more important than the comics at this point. The problem with comics right now, is unless you get them at say, Barnes & Nobels, Borders, Amazon or someplace like that (which is a graphic novel, not a comic book) you have to go to a specialty store to get them and most parents just don't want to deal with something like that.

Think back to when you were a kid and whether you bought them or not, I bet you can remember being at a grocery store or gas station and seeing comic books. Think about those same kind of stores now, what's there? Magazines and maybe books, but comics are absent. The entire comic industry almost collapsed in the 90's and while it's recovered from that, they have never been able to get comics back into newsstands. My hope, is Disney has the marketing power (money) to do that.

I mean we'll see how big Harry Potter is, they could end up just saying, fuck it to the marvel stuff and expand the HP stuff. If not, Universal doesn't have to get rid of anything, according to the reported terms of their contracts.

A minimal amount, because by the time the Harry Potter land is up and running, Disney won't have had time to do anything with the Marvel characters outside of maybe some merchandise. If Disney wants to counter Universal, their best bet is to do what the rumors are saying and buy up Lucasfilm. That way they have complete rights to Star Wars, Indiana Jones, ect. That would be like a monopoly for Disney, Princesses, Pirates, Cars (which is a huge toy-line), Marvel, Stars Wars, would be insane!
