PostSubject: Al Capone?   April 8th 2009, 02:51

say we have a while before our next train, how cool would it be to visit his grave site?

"Al Capone was buried in Mount Olivet Cemetery between the graves of his father, Gabriel, and brother, Frank, on Chicago’s far South Side. However, the remains of the family were moved to Mount Carmel Cemetery in March 1950 in Hillside, Illinois just west of Chicago."

a bit of a stretch but still, it's an idea. =D

Oh wow, that cemetery seems pretty awesome then, definitely some interesting stories there. We'll definitely have to check it out if we have a couple of hours to kill. The Italian Bride thing was very interesting, I wonder if there's better theories these days as to how that could happen?

"Some have attributed Petta's condition upon being exhumed to her being incorruptible, while others have attributed the condition of her body to the type of soil found in the cemetery."

i decided to look up different soils and things that may slow the process of decomposure down.. but then i began thinking... she was buried in a coffin, not in the soil itself, so why should the type of soil matter? maybe perspiration and things should be taken into consideration but all soil gets wet when it rains. i don't think that's it. who knowsss..

here's some more stuff that came up on a search: julia buccola petta

I just deleted my post but could at least part of this story be urban legend? But then I went to snopes.com and checked it out and there's nothing on it there, which has to mean it's true. Weeeeeeiiiiiiiiiiiirrrrrrrrrd.

oohhh... very very creepyful. i always picture us getting to chicago at daytime for some reason, what if we get there at night? hopefully not too late, because i know there's a closing time... -- okay checked the site again, that was office hours i was reading not cemetery hours. do they keep the cemetery open then, or?

makes me want to read more about the people buried there. i love love love the whole mobster thing, it's something i've only ever seen in movies...so to walk among the burial ground of the real deal (not to glorify what they've done or anything, of course) it'd be pretty nuts.

Yeah, unfortunately we won't be able to know that until we book it. Not sure what we're going to do if we get there in the middle of the night, a Marriott stay would probably be required then.

Oh! (could tell you this on IM, will tell you here) I stole a magazine from my sister when I was checking her mail while she's away, it has Amtrak stuff for 09-10.
